Character Relations.
Lord Henry Wotton.
epigrammatical / tu shanshu.

Harry is one of Alcuin's closest friends on the turtle- and surprisingly, it's not because Harry is influencing him. They are able to meet on an intellectual level as equals and Harry can't play the same games with him that he likes to play with others. Alcuin thinks Harry is charming and intelligent and an excellent conversationalist, though his Victorian notions of wickedness amuse Alcuin's d'Angeline sensibilities. Between their intellectual and aesthetic attraction to each other, it's not particularly surprising that their relationship has moved to a sexual level, though not a romantic one.
Jean "Jehan" Prouvaire.
poeticverses / tu shanshu.

Alcuin has a fondness for redheaded poets. He befriended this one shortly after Jehan's arrival, and had a spirited conversation on the subject of monarchies with him. Their friendship survived that, and although Alcuin shocks Jehan on a regular basis, it continues very strong. Jehan was the one to bring a book of Anafiel Delaunay's poetry back from their first landfall, which he gave to Alcuin, making Alcuin as happy as he's ever been on the turtle. Alcuin has recently stepped back from the vague idea of a romance with Jehan, as they both happen to be seeing other people and Alcuin's tendency to kiss him seemed to make Jehan uncomfortable.
Courfeyrac.
lecentre / tu shanshu.

Courfeyrac makes Alcuin laugh, which is an excellent reason to like him. His original choice to sleep with him (after a brief acquaintance) was made because he desperately needed a physical distraction and a way to help himself begin to move on from his death and that of his lover, Anafiel Delaunay. Additionally, Courfeyrac was the first person he really felt free to choose- there was no obligation, and no deeper emotions involved. Their relationship, however, can still be called a friendship- while he enjoys Courfeyrac's company, he is not romantically attached. Courfeyrac represents freedom to him- he's a person with whom he can forget the past and discover who he is when he's on his own.
Sabriel.
bindsthedead / tu shanshu.

Sabriel, though she's two years younger than Alcuin, is his teacher in Charter Magic. He's fascinated by learning it (as he loves to learn) and an attentive student, and he likes her quite a bit. He can't wait to learn everything she has to teach.
